About the Organization:

Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) is a public university located in Fort Portal, in the Western region of Uganda. Established in 2005, MMU was initially a private institution but was transitioned into a public university by the Ugandan government in 2022. The university was named after the Rwenzori Mountains, often referred to as the "Mountains of the Moon," which are nearby and add a distinct geographical significance to its name.

MMU offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines, including education, business, agriculture, social sciences, health sciences, and information technology. The university is known for its focus on practical, community-based education, aiming to address the developmental needs of the region and the country at large.

Job Description

To audit payments to ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations; and monitor and examine financial operations to ensure value for money.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ethics and Governance

Governance Reviews: Evaluate the organization’s governance practices, ensuring that there are clear policies, accountability structures, and transparency in decision-making.
Code of Conduct Compliance: Ensure that employees and management adhere to the organization’s code of conduct and ethical standards.
Whistleblower Investigations: Investigate any reports or concerns raised through the organization’s whistleblower hotline or other reporting mechanisms.

Continuous Improvement and Training

Audit Process Improvement: Continuously improve the internal audit process by adopting best practices, new technologies, and innovative audit techniques.
Staff Training: Provide training and support to other departments on risk management, internal controls, and compliance issues.
Professional Development: Stay updated on changes in audit standards, industry regulations, and best practices by participating in continuous professional development.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Business Studies (Accounting option).

Experience and Competences

A minimum of three (3) years full time experience in Internal/ External auditing or Accounting.
Must be a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors of Uganda.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
High level of integrity.
Demonstrated computer skills.
