CPA Uganda Course

Purpose of the CPA Uganda Course

The CPA (U) Course is designed to produce competent professional accountants, capable of making a positive contribution to the accounting profession and the national economy in general.

 

The graduates of this course are expected to serve as Accountants, Finance Officers, Finance Managers, Auditors, tax and financial consultants, Chief Executive Officers, Chief Operating Officers among others. Examinations are set and marked by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

Objectives of the CPA(U) Course

  • To promote competent professional accountants capable of applying the knowledge, skills and values in a practical situation.

 

  • To provide a foundation of knowledge, skills and values that will stimulate those who complete the course to continue learning and adapting to changes throughout their professional lives.

  • To register as a CPA student, one must have one of the following qualifications;

    1. Degree

    • Degree from a recognised University

    2. Certificate  / Diplomas

    • An Accounting Technicians Certificate/Diploma from a professional accountancy body such as ICPAU, KASNEB, NBAA, ICPAR, etc ​

    • A diploma pursued in period of at least two years from a recognised University or Institution of Higher Learning.

    • A professional certificate offered by another body such as KASNEB, CIPS, CIM etc.

    3. A-level

    • At least two principle passes at A-level with at least 5 credits at O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics.

    Note:

    A qualification obtained from Outside Uganda, must be accredited by the respective government and NCHE or UNEB may have to validate it.

    4. Foreign Accountancy Qualifications (FAQs)

    Holders of FAQs must sit for Business and Company Law – Paper 5, Advanced Taxation – Paper 17 and Public Financial Management – Paper 13 as a minimum. One may be required to sit for other papers which he/she may not have covered in their courses of study. Examples of FAQs include CIMA, CA, ACCA et

  • CPA Uganda Syllabus
  • 1. A student may sit for a minimum of one and a maximum of all the subjects at any Level at any one sitting.

    2. A student must complete a lower level of the syllabus before proceeding to the next level, unless one has a maximum of two (2) subjects at either Level I or Level II, which may be attempted together with some other subjects at the next level, taking into account the exceptions below.​

    3. No student will be allowed to combine the following subjects of the different levels at any one

    sitting:​

    4. A student who has any subject(s) at Level I will not be allowed to attempt any subject(s) at Level III unless one is a FAQ holder, who may attempt a combination of subjects at Levels I, II & III at any one sitting.

    5. A student must complete Levels I-III in order to attempt Level IV.

    CPA Uganda Progression Rules
    • Examinations for the year 2024 shall be held thrice i.e. May, August and November. The table below shows the planned examination diets.

    • Apex Tax and Accounting School is recognised and approved by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) as a tuition provider for the CPA(U) Professional Course in Uganda. We have been offering the CPA(U) course for ten (10) years now and produce the top performing students in Uganda.​

    • We offer three distinct methods of study/training for the CPA(U) students;

    1. Evening Program

    Apex Tax and Accounting School is recognised and approved by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda

    2. Weekend Program

    This comprises of scheduled 3-hour lecture sessions from 8:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

    3. Self-paced Program

    This is perfect for participants who have a busy schedule and cannot attend physical and live interactive online classes. Participants get to enroll for self-paced courses with pre-recorded lecture videos, get access to unlimited resources such as lecture notes, lecture slides, tests, quizzes and mock examinations. Participants follow their own study schedule under our monitoring.
