Kyenjojo District was established on 28th November 2000 being curved out of Kabarole District and later gave birth to Kyegegwa District on 22nd December 2009. Administratively, the district has one county (Mwenge) and three constituencies (Mwenge North, Mwenge Central and Mwenge South), 18 sub counties, 9 Town Councils, 109 parishes, 47 wards and 853 villages.

Job Description

By fulfilling these duties and meeting the requirements, an Accountant ensures the financial stability and integrity of the organization, supports strategic decision-making, and contributes to overall organizational success.

CPA Uganda April 2024 Intake

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and balance sheets.

  • Ensure all financial transactions are recorded correctly and timely.


Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

  • Compile and analyze financial reports to provide insights into the financial health of the organization.


Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Monitor actual performance against budget and report on variances.


Tax Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.

  • Prepare and file tax returns and manage tax payments and audits.


Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Manage accounts payable, ensuring all invoices are processed and paid on time.

  • Oversee accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and managing customer accounts.

Audit and Assurance:

  • Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.


Payroll Processing:

  • Manage payroll processes, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.

  • Handle payroll taxes and other deductions.


Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making.

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.


Compliance and Regulation:

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Stay updated with changes in accounting laws and regulations.


Financial Advice and Support:

  • Provide financial advice and support to management and other departments.

  • Assist in financial planning, investment decisions, and risk management.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • A master’s degree in accounting or finance can be advantageous.


Professional Certifications:

  • Certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is highly desirable.


Experience:

  • Several years of experience in accounting or a related field.

  • Experience in specific industries or specialized areas of accounting (e.g., tax, audit, forensic accounting) can be beneficial.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

  • Familiarity with financial management systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.


Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data and provide insights.

  • Ability to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement in financial performance.

Attention to Detail:

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing financial records and transactions.

  • Ability to ensure data integrity and avoid errors in financial reporting.


Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.


Organizational Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage competing priorities effectively.


Ethics and Integrity:

  • Strong ethical standards and integrity in handling financial information.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and security of financial data.


Professional Development:

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with industry trends and accounting standards.
