Job Description
HHA East Africa is looking for a self-motivated and competent Accountant to be based in Bidi-bidi New Hope Rehabilitation Centre (Uganda)
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. He/she will maintain accurate financial records, process transactions, and support the Finance Manager in day-to-day financial activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting and Banking:
Follow the Finance Manual policy as inherently part of your job description.
Ensure and enforce Staff to follow correct procedures from the Finance Manual, present timely receipts, invoices, costing’s, quotes, contracts, and return unspent cash.
Maintain all financial records on a day-to-day basis.
Record day-to-day financial transactions in the accounting software.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers and journals.
Prepare payment vouchers and manage receipts.
Verify and record invoices, bills, and receipts.
Assist in management of Petty Cash.
Assist in ensuring Petty Cash and fuel reconciliations are completed monthly.
Assist in ensuring all payments are made on time, especially staff salaries.
Process accounts payable and receivable transactions promptly.
Assist in the monthly NSSF/URA payments, and other annual taxes and Government charges.
Ensure all paid invoices are marked “paid” and attached to the payment voucher.
Ensure that all bank withdrawals and payments have been approved appropriately and in accordance with the Finance Manual.
Reports
Assist in preparing reports to HHA UK at the end of each month on: actual costs, debtors and creditors, and approved-but-not-spent items. To do this, you will be required to work closely with the Finance Manager.
Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist in monthly reconciliations for Cash (UGx, SSP and USD), bank and fuel.
Audit and Stocks
Assist in the annual audit of the accounts, presenting the information requested by the auditor.
Assist in management of inventory, stock and assets records process ensuring they are well-maintained and asset policy is enforced. You must have good knowledge of records and stocks, and their whereabouts.
Planning and Budgets
Create reliable costing for all future HHA(EA) projects and other activities, including administrative and overhead costs.
Work closely with the Finance Manager and collectively create and draft budgets for new activities.
Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
Assist in monitoring budgetary performance and report variances to the Finance Manager.
Analysis
Assist in financial analysis to support decision-making processes.
Provide insights into financial trends and make recommendations for improvement.
Documentation and Filing
Maintain organized and complete financial documentation.
Ensure all financial records are filed appropriately for easy retrieval.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA certification is an added advantage
Proven experience as an accountant or in a similar role.
Minimum of 3 years’ working experience as an accountant
Proficient in excel spreadsheet
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
