Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for leading the Bank’s Finance team and driving financial strategy and operations. You will work closely with the executive team to ensure that financial practices align with the bank’s business objectives and support its long-term growth and competitiveness. The CFO will establish and implement financial strategy, monitor cashflow, and assess areas of financial risk and opportunity for the Bank.
The CFO is charged with the responsibility to forecast, strategize for the bank’s financial future, promote growth, and provide advisory support to all stakeholders. In addition, he/she will be responsible for identifying financial risks and implementing mitigation measures to ensure the following:
• Financial Health: Ensuring the Bank’s financial stability and growth.
• Strategic Planning: Aligning the Bank’s financial strategies with business goals.
• Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating financial risks.
• Capital Allocation: Allocating resources to maximize returns and value.
• Cost Management: Optimizing operational costs and expenses.
Duties and Responsibilities
He/she will provide advisory services to Management and Board of Directors on financial matters, developing long-term financial strategies, and identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost optimization
He/she will lead the Finance department team, set the tone for the team's culture and ensure everyone works together effectively.
He/she will collaborate with other departments to drive financial awareness across the entire bank.
He/she will oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
He/she will manage financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards
He/she will undertake timely and routine financial data analysis to support strategic financial decisions
He/she will take charge of financial risk management and cash flow optimization
He/she will develop and implement financial strategies that align with the Bank’s business objectives and support long-term growth in collaboration with other Bank Executives.
He/she will oversee financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
He/she will develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, internal control mechanisms and systems to ensure efficiency & effectiveness and compliance with regulatory requirements
He/she will manage relationships with external stakeholders, including investors, auditors, and financial institutions
He/she will ensure that financial practices in the bank align with industry standards and best practices
He/she will ensure full transparency over the financial performance of the Bank and all matters pertaining to financial management.
He/she must leverage technology to improve financial operations. This includes implementing new financial software, driving automation initiatives, or exploring cutting-edge fintech solutions to give the bank a competitive edge.
Any other related duties
Accountable for financial reporting in line with IFRS, Companies Act, FIA 2004 and for ensuring integrity, accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Accountable for filing of statutory returns to regulatory authorities in a timely manner.
Responsible for delivering effective people management processes including performance management, talent management, staff career development and succession planning.
Financial Responsibility
Overall accountability for managing the HFB business budget.
Accountable for effective implementation of the Bank’s Financial Risk & Control Frameworks.
Qualifications and Experience
Must be certified Accountant with at least 10 years’ relevant experience, five of which in a senior finance management position in a commercial reputable organization.
A first degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics or Statistics or a related field would be preferred.
A master’ degree in Business Management or Finance/Accounting or a related field would be an added advantage Skills & Experience
Demonstrated ability to provide financial insights and recommendations to support business growth
Track record of successfully managing financial risks and implementing effective control measures
Experience in presenting financial information to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and shareholders
Knowledge of financial software and management tools for efficient financial operations
Proven leadership skills in building and developing a high-performing finance team
Ability to collaborate with senior managers across the organization to align financial goals with business objectives
Understanding of regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
Expertise in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting
Strong track record in financial reporting and analysis, including the preparation and interpretation of financial statements
Ability to develop and implement financial strategies to support the overall business strategy
Knowledge of management software and systems for effective financial management
Expertise in financial management, including cash flow, financial planning, and financial decision-making
Knowledge of capital structure and the ability to optimize financial resources
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with C-suite executives, and other key stakeholders
Strategic thinking and the ability to provide insights and recommendations to improve financial health
Proficient in analyzing financial information and using metrics to evaluate performance
Ability to lead and manage the finance department and collaborate with senior managers and the Board of Directors
Proficiency in financial software and management tools
Leadership skills to guide and mentor the finance team and foster a highperforming finance department
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder management and presenting financial information
Ability to develop and implement a business plan to drive financial growth
Strong analytical skills to assess financial risks and opportunities
Knowledge of financial control and compliance to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data
Proven experience of implementing financial controls and/or financial risk management
Experience of having worked in either a large financial institution or background in large commercial setting or mainstream accounting/audit firms in a Senior Management position is a must.
Competencies in IFRS’s strategic & financial planning, budgeting and monitoring.
