Are you a recent graduate struggling to secure your first job? Do you want to build your career in high-demand sectors like agriculture, tourism and hospitality, or the green economy? Here's the perfect opportunity for you! The Work Readiness Program (WRP), launched by Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in collaboration with Enabel, is offering young Ugandans an exciting pathway to gain practical work experience and enhance their employability.

What is the Work Readiness Program (WRP)?

The WRP is a transformative initiative designed to address the employability gaps faced by university and vocational graduates in Uganda. It focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical skills demanded by employers. The program places young graduates in real-world job settings for a hands-on experience that equips them with essential workplace skills, soft skills, and the right attitude to succeed in the professional world.

The program is targeting 1,200 graduates from universities and other higher institutions who are eager to kickstart their careers in industries such as agriculture, tourism and hospitality, and the green economy.

Who Qualifies for the WRP?

If you’re a recent graduate (degree, diploma, or certificate holder) aged between 18 and 35, this opportunity is for you! To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be aged between 18 and 35 years.

  • Have graduated within the last 5 years from a recognized institution (university or higher learning institution).

  • Be eager to work in the agriculture, tourism, hospitality, or green economy sectors.

  • Be willing to commit to a 6-8 month work readiness program.

Why Should You Apply?

This program offers an array of benefits that can help launch your career. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Practical Experience: Put your academic knowledge to use in a real-world work environment. This hands-on experience will enhance your professional skills and give you a competitive edge in the job market.

  2. Soft Skills Development: The program focuses on building essential soft skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. These skills are often the difference between being a good employee and a great one.

  3. Professional Network: Gain access to a broader professional network, which can open doors for future job opportunities. Working with industry leaders and experts will help you build connections that last.

  4. Stipend & Benefits: Graduates will receive a monthly stipend contribution of 80,000 UGX, along with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Group Personal Accident Insurance for the duration of the program.

  5. Employment Possibility: Upon successful completion of the program and good performance, you may be offered full-time employment by the host company.

How Will It Work?

The WRP partners with over 360 companies across Uganda to provide graduates with the practical exposure they need to succeed. You’ll be placed at one of these companies for 6 to 8 months, where you’ll work alongside industry professionals, gaining valuable skills and experience.

The program is specifically designed to enhance your employability and ease your transition into full-time work. By participating in this program, you’ll not only acquire technical skills but also develop the workplace mindset that employers seek.

Inclusivity: Empowering All Graduates

We believe in equality and inclusivity. Female graduates are highly encouraged to apply, especially for positions in male-dominated fields within the agriculture, tourism, and green economy sectors. Persons with disabilities (PWDs) and refugees are also strongly encouraged to apply, as the program is committed to providing opportunities for all Ugandans, regardless of background or ability.
